Flexible identity for the city of Nantes

Our analysis has focused on the sounds of the city.
We have agreed on a concept to guide our work: the musicality of the urban space.
In the project, the sound becomes the rhythmic, descriptive and graphical element of identity of places that constitute the city.
We identified three categories of sound sources
Each one of these category is associated with a color :
Yellow for Human, Red for Machines, Blue for Beauty
The louder a sound is, the larger the associated symbol
To create the different logos, we developed a system called “The Grid”.
Thanks to a software, The Grid defines a usable area to place each symbol relative to the data measured in real time. The dominant sound is always placed in the center.
The identity of Nantes is composed of multiple sound signatures emanating from its various neighborhoods, parks, and historic places.
This diversity allows for the creation of a flexible identity.
